Depuis une vingtaine d’années, il partage son activité artistique entre la céramique et l’illustration au service d’un univers enfantin joyeux et coloré. Le monde animalier est pour lui une source d’inspiration stimulante et inépuisable. À poils, à plumes ou recouverts d’écailles, les bestioles de toutes espèces sont au cœur de son travail. Après de nombreuses expositions de céramique, Modeste a illustré plus d’une vingtaine d’albums jeunesse illustrés et de jeux pour enfants, dont certains primés et traduits à l’étranger. Depuis 2016, il a créé les Éditions à la gomme pour créer ses jeux pour enfants, puis développer des cahiers de croquis à colorier et maintenant publier des albums jeunesse pour les tout-petits et les plus grands.
